2015 - A PIPE DREAM

I’ve always had a passion for brewing. I think it runs in the family as my grandfather was a keen home brewer. I remember going to his house as a young lad and seeing all the equipment and pestering him all the time to tell me all about what everything did. I decided to borrow his kit when I got into my mid 20’s to give it a go myself. I loved it! It started with a batch here and a batch there, tweaking my recipes as I went. Once I was happy with a couple of batches I started giving them to family and they loved it. Everyone was telling me to start doing it on a larger scale but I never thought it could work. It was a pipe dream.

2017 - THE BABY STEP

So after some thinking and persuasion from friends and family, I decided to give it a shot. Tinworks Brewing Co. was born. I started off small and purchased my first brewing kit which was a 300L bad boy. I got set up in my parents garage and this is where I went to work to create our core range of beers. I did everything there by hand, brewed everything, bottled one bottle at a time, manually put the labels on and even date stamped every bottle. It wasn't too bad as I was only brewing 300 or so bottles at a time. Everyone was loving what I was doing, so now that I had the proof of concept, it was time to up scale!

2018 - THE FIRST STEP

This was the first step into the unknown. Before, it was fine as everything was small scale but now we had moved into an actual premises in Carmarthen. We rented out an old brewery which was great. It was a big space and it had all the kit I needed to be able to upscale. Things were going well there and we started producing for bars and restaurants as well as the general public. The only downside was that the brewery was based in Carmarthen. It didn't feel right that I set up the brewery which was all about celebrating Llanelli’s heritage and we were brewing in Carmarthen. But, it was the only premises I could find that was available and which was in my price range. With this in mind, I decided that I needed to move back to Llanelli so the search started.

2019 - THE GIANT LEAP

At the start of 2020 we managed to find the perfect location and we were lucky enough to secure it, we were on the way back home. The only problem I had was that we didn’t have a brewing kit as we were renting that in Carmarthen. So, as soon as we found the premises, we were on the hunt for a bigger and better kit. Lots of searching and a bit of luck we managed to find the perfect kit and we shipped it down from Scotland. Now, we have gone from brewing 300 bottles when we started to now brewing 5,000 bottle batches. It has been a struggle due to Covid-19 and lockdowns etc, but we have gotten through it and we can’t wait to see what 2021 holds for Tinworks Brewing Co.
