ASHBURNHAM PORTER

DARK, CHOCOLATE, SUTTLE BITTERNESS

5% ABV

We bring together six different malts to create a surprisingly elegant beer. The dark malts bring a complex and textured feel to the porter. Lightly hopped, we leave the malts to do the work. Think dark chocolate, roasted coffee and black treacle.

“Very impressive porter, lovely roasted malts coming through and tasting stronger than it is. An imperial version would be awesome.”

“Going all porter nerd on this.. for a no nonsense, 5% porter, it manages to taste stronger very well. Sweet background with pronounced bitter flavours. An imperial version would take this from a 4 to a 5.”

ASHBURNHAM TINPLATE WORKS

Named after Lord Ashburnham, the Ashburnham Tinplate Works opened in 1890. Financed by local business men it had a turbulent history – hence its nickname “The Umbrella Works”. During WW2 it was used as a tobacco warehouse. It was then nationalised in 1951. However the modern production methods at the new Trostre Works forced the Ashburnham Works to close its doors on the 31st of January 1953. A part of the site now houses Parson Pickles Factory.
